1.Above the fold. People hate scrolling. Your forms and everything important should always, no matter what, be above the fold. This will increase your conversion a lot.
2.Interaction. People are more likely to buy your product if they can interact with your website. If you make the buyer believe that the website they are on is able to find the *perfect* product, the chances are high that they will buy the product you recommend if they like the landing page of the product (something you can’t influence).
3.Authorities. Authorities can have a huge impact on your conversions. Let’s say the pope recommends your product and you add a picture and quote of the pope, it could triple your conversions. Before you add pictures of britney spears, madonna or whoever else to your site, you should be aware of the fact that they can sue you if you claim that celebrity ABC recommends that product. Well, most of the times you will at least receive a warning to remove the pictures before they will sue you. However, if it is a fact that celebrity ABC recommended it, they can’t sue you = $$$ big cash $$$. You can also take the risk and “lie”, this is a moral thing I guess and this is 100% up to you. Personally, I’d say being honest can pay off too, also it is true that authorities can triple your conversions.
4.Social Proof. People will follow the herd. If they know other people buy that or that product, they will follow the herd.

5.The magic “buy-button”. People don’t know much about the web, some are happy when they are able to surf the web. But they know the basics:

Links are blue and underlined
Buy or Action Buttons are yellow. (the reason for this is that most people are familiar with the yellow amazon buttons)

If you combine the two points above, you’ll figure out how the perfect button should look like. This will increase your conversions a little bit.

6.Colors. Did you notice that every template has a different color? Well, of course you did. But you might think I did that because it is looking nice. “You didn’t?!!!” Most marketeers underestimate colors. I’m a designer and web developer, so I know how important colors are. Colors will affect your mood, your emotions, your memory, your heart rate and most importantly our buying behaviour. Actually, they affect everything. Colors have symbolic meanings and we associate “something” with every color. To become a better marketeer you will have to understand colors as well.

By now you should have a product and a rough idea what you want to do.

Brainstorm Headlines that will attract your audience

What are your visitors interested in? What problems want they solve?
Make sure to build up a very close connection between the headline of your adverts and the headline of your landing page:

Headline of your Ad:
Efficient Dog Training (short headline about the subject)

Headline of your Landing Page:
How To Change Your Dog’s Behaviour in 10 days (solve a concrete problem).

The headline of your landing page should be about a concrete problem that is general enough to attract many people who are interested in dog training, yet so concrete that people become interested and WILL READ ON.

This is your main job: Make people read on and CLICK. Actually, the click is the most important, although you have to remember that you should presell a product and evoke emotions, feelings and more.

A good image choice is very important to evoke emotions, but this was my job :) and I think all the pictures I’ve chosen evoke a lot of emotions.

Brainstorm ways to interact with your LP

Next, your job is to brainstorm how you could make the visitor interact with your LP (landing page). You will have to edit the dropdown-fields and enter information related to your product. Remember, if you make them believe that you are able to find the best product for them the chances are high that he/she will buy.

Of course this is a little bit sneaky and if you don’t think this is right, feel free to hire a programmer to develop a small tool that can actually find different products for different people (if you can’t do it yourself).

To be honest, this is very basic HTML and every good marketeer should be able to this on his own. If you don’t you better learn HTML and if you can PHP.
A reason to hire a programmer might be if you want to outsource and don’t “waste time” on parts that other people can do in less time.

Ok, now you either got a sneaky fake tool or a small tool to find the best product. Next you got to think about the social herd.

Testimonials and Before-After Pictures

Fill the glorious “Lorem Ipsum” text with useful information. Add Before-After Photos, Testimonials or Authority pictures to the right sidebar of the the template.

Remember, everything should be above the fold. So if you want to fill the whole site with tons of information, you can either add a link to a review site (that should have the same template) or add a new “box” below the actual site, so that people can scroll down (even if they hate to).

Tracking

When you are done, setup a tracking tool and track everything that is important. Split-test landing pages and change things that do not seem to work. Once you found something that works (e.g. Increases your CTR – clicktroughrate) you should write it down, so you can use the same technique for other LP’s.
